The Polish Book Institute is a national cultural institution. It was established by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage in 2004 to promote Polish literature worldwide and to popularise books and reading within the country.
The Institute organises literary programmes to promote Polish literature at international book fairs, supports translations from Polish into foreign languages, arranges study visits for translations and foreign publishers.
The Institute organises reading promotion camping in Poland – “Small Book – Big Person” in which young parents in maternity wards receive a unique “Reading Pack”. About 30,000 children receive “Reading Packs” in 360 hospitals all over Poland every month.
Moreover, The Institute actively supports other reading promotion initiatives such as: CZYTAJ PL campaign (READ PL) dedicated to high school students and adults to encourage them to reading on smartphones and “National Reading Day”, which is the biggest event promoting reading aloud in Poland organised each year by The President of Poland.
The Polish Book Institute is also the publisher of cultural journals, covering mainly literature and theatre.
