Magazine reading and diversity (Germany)

Magazines open doors to reading

This study examines the effectiveness of the ‘Magazines in Schools’ project among pupils, who, as a result of their social situation or their migration backgrounds, are at a disadvantage as far as education is concerned.

Stiftung Lesen and the Presse-Grosso foundation are provide schools of all kinds throughout Germany with packages of magazines that can be used as material for lessons, as well as being used as private reading material for the pupils.

The accompanying scientific study, which was conducted in 19 junior secondary schools, examined the effects the contact with the magazines had on the perceptions of the young people in regard to reading, their motivation for reading and the pleasure in reading.
